AI in Smart Services in Manufacturing

Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Business and Management, Institute of Management
Economy Marketing Public Relations Electrical Engineering Computing Engineering

Topic Overview

Manufacturers provide both basic and advanced services for their products. Advanced services include, for example, remote monitoring, repair, predictive maintenance. Some companies are starting to use AI tools for advanced services as well.

Artificial Intelligence, Behavioural Finance and Financial Decision-Making

Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Business and Management, Institute of Informatics
Economy

Topic Overview

Financial markets are increasingly influenced not only by economic fundamentals but also by digital information, artificial intelligence and human behaviour. Investors make decisions based on financial news, social media, online discussions and AI-generated content, making information processing an essential part of modern financial markets.
This internship introduces students to contemporary research methods used to study financial decision-making from a behavioural perspective. Students will learn how researchers analyse scientific literature using the PRISMA methodology and bibliometric mapping in VOSviewer, while gaining an introduction to sentiment analysis, natural language processing and the role of emotions in financial markets.

The internship is designed to provide students with practical research experience rather than advanced programming skills. It offers an accessible introduction to current research topics in behavioural finance and artificial intelligence.

Circular Economy and Sustainable Business Management

Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Business and Management, Department of Economics
Economy

Topic Overview

The circular economy (CE) is a vital concept linking environmental sustainability with business strategy. It emphasizes redesigning products and services in order to minimize waste and keep resources in use as long as possible. Circular business models significantly reduce raw material extraction and waste. The European Union’s Circular Economy Action Plan and other global initiatives make such circular innovations a strategic imperative. In this project, students will explore both theory and practice: they will study CE principles, relevant policy frameworks and business model innovations, then apply these concepts to analyze real-world case studies.

Evaluation of the 15-Minute City Concept

Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Business and Management, Department of Management
Economy Mechanical Engineering Material Engineering

Topic Overview

In recent years, the concept of the 15-Minute City (15mC) has become one of the most widely discussed approaches in the fields of sustainability, logistics, transport, urbanism and urban planning. Its main idea is to create urban neighbourhoods where residents have access to essential services, job opportunities, shops and leisure activities within walking or cycling distance of approximately 15 minutes from their homes. This approach promotes a reduction in the dependence on private car use, improves the quality of public spaces, strengthens social cohesion and reduces the negative impact on the environment.

Hybrid Threats and Organized Crime Governance in Brazil: Lessons for European Resilience

Palacky University in Olomouc, Law Faculty, Political and Social Sciences
Law

Topic Overview

Contemporary security debates increasingly recognise that threats to state resilience may emerge not only from external actors but also from non-state structures exercising governance functions within state territory. This article will Brazilian criminal organisations, particularly the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and Comando Vermelho (CV), through the lens of hybrid governance and societal resilience. It will argue that these organisations perform functions traditionally associated with the state, including norm-setting, dispute resolution, information control, and the provision of security within selected urban areas. Drawing on the Brazilian experience, the study will develop sort of a framework for identifying indicators of resilience erosion caused by criminal governance. The article will further explore the relevance of these findings for European security debates and demonstrates how lessons from Brazil may contribute to a broader understanding of hybrid threats in democratic societies. The expected findings may suggest that resilience assessments should pay greater attention to non-state actors that challenge state authority without seeking formal political power.

Molecular Evolution of Feline Immunodeficiency Virus in Lions: Towards a Molecular Tool for Wildlife Forensics

Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, Centre for Infectious Animal Diseases
Environemental Engineering Biology

Topic Overview

Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) is a lentivirus infecting domestic and wild felids. African lions (Panthera leo) are naturally infected with lion-specific FIV lineages (FIV-Ple), which have evolved in long-term association with their host and usually cause mild or asymptomatic infection. Their genetic diversity makes FIV-Ple an interesting model for studying viral evolution in natural wildlife populations.
This remote internship will investigate the molecular evolution of FIV-Ple using publicly available sequences and phylogenetic methods. TempEst will be used to evaluate temporal signal, while BEAST analyses will estimate evolutionary rates and reconstruct the timing of viral lineages.
The project will also explore whether viral evolution could help estimate the approximate collection date of samples with unknown histories. Such an approach could potentially contribute to wildlife forensics, where new molecular methods are needed to support investigations of illegal hunting and wildlife trafficking. The internship therefore connects virology, molecular evolution, bioinformatics and wildlife conservation.

Role and Function of Non-Verbal Communication Among Populations in Primary Care

Charles University, Faculty of Social Sciences, Institute of Sociology, Department of Public and Social Policy
Health Care Social Sciences

Topic Overview

Effective communication is crucial in healthcare, because it translates into high-quality provision, diagnostic
accuracy, treatment adherence and development of trust (Ratna, 2019; Booker, 2005). Although many studies
have focused on the verbal exchanges (Connor et al., 2009), the non-verbal communication (NVC) realm remains
underexplored, especially in Primary Care settings.
NVC can be defined as any communicative act that does not include speech (Mandal, 2014), such as silence,
posture, eye gaze, and facial expressions, among others. In primary care settings, NVC promotes empathy,
where patients evaluate the provider’s attentiveness, validation of his medical problem and active listening
(Park et al., 2024); but can also convey socio-economic judgment, defensive posture and withdrawal from care
(Raja et al., 2015).
The objective of this internship is to conduct a literature review synthesizing theoretical frameworks and
empirical evidence on the role, dimensions, and communicative functions of NVC during primary care patientprovider
interactions.

Understanding to Infographics in Maps

Palacký University Olomouc, Faculty of Science, Department of Geoinformatics
Geography

Topic Overview

Infographics became a powerful way how to visualize the different types of information effectively. Nowadays, a high increase in the usage of infographics in various areas is evident. Cartography and its application of modern ways of visualization into maps are proven. However, the understanding of infographics is not uniform among the academic or a lay society. The verified fact is that everybody can somehow identify infographics but describe them differently. The topic of the intern aims to identify infographics in a set of maps from different authors, years, graphical style, and theme.
